Right To The City is joining forces with CarsonWatch

Over the last 3 months, tens of thousands of us have mobilized in response to dangerous and unconscionable cuts to federal housing programs and repeated attacks by the current administration on our communities. Your powerful resistance and our collective resiliency is needed now more than ever.

As the national housing crisis continues to deepen, more and more people are beginning to join a bold and visionary movement to defend our communities, fight back against displacement and build a world where housing as a human right.

At Right To The City and Homes For All we believe that to cultivate that movement we must build a national land & housing front to resist aggressive attacks on our communities and build power across sectors to transform our land & housing system. We believe the time is now to build a united movement of housing justice organizations and alliances to coordinate shared action, campaigns and policy fights to transform our housing system the public conciousness to win a world where housing comes before profit and homes are guaranteed as a fundamental human right for all people.

That’s why we’re excited to share the news that Right to the City and the Homes For All campaign have become a partner with four other groups — Public Advocates; Poverty & Race Research Action Council; the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law; and PolicyLink — in an exciting new national housing justice initiative called CarsonWatch.

CarsonWatch is focused on advancing a positive agenda based on the belief that housing is a fundamental human right; and also on holding HUD Secretary Ben Carson, President Trump and their allies accountable for their shameful housing agenda. RTC and HFA members have been building a bottom-up translocal housing justice movement, to amplify our impact and win safe, affordable and dignified homes for all. In partnership with Carson watch we will strengthen this movement city-by-city, while ensuring that this movement continues to center the voices and leadership of residents who are most impacted by the crisis.

CarsonWatch is monitoring HUD actions, sharing actionable intelligence with housing groups on the ground, and helping local and national groups organize responses to new threats. They are collaborating on research and communications strategies to shift the national narrative on housing, and uniting housing justice forces locally and nationally to build a movement that can win.

As CarsonWatch’s core grassroots partner, we are working together reach millions of unorganized residents impacted by the housing crisis. We’re building bridges to other housing justice formations to connect our broad movement for land & housing justice with others toward the development of a powerful, intersectional and united movement for racial, gender, economic and environmental justice.

Leading up to our Renter Week of Actions & Assemblies (September 18-24), we will be working through CarsonWatch to help build united front we need, not only to resist the Trump agenda, but to promote a transformative vision of housing, land and economic justice. Stay tuned for more news about how we will work with CarsonWatch to build a more powerful movement together.

We encourage all of our members, your members and our supporters to sign up for CarsonWatch, so you can stay up to date on what’s happening in Washington, D.C., and in local communities across the country. We also encourage you to share your photos, videos and stories so we can share them and help inspire activists in other places.

In solidarity,
