Alternatives for Community & Environment (ACE) is seeking a full-time Resource Organizer to lead our efforts to maintain relationships with and raise funds from individual donors and raise revenue from non-foundation sources primarily by maintaining relationships and communication with our current donors, prospecting for new donors and increasing the amount of funds that come from our core constituencies low income communities and communities of color.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, self-motivated, and have a proven ability to raise funds from individuals. They will be committed to getting results in a cooperative environment and able to handle a heavy workload without dropping the ball. This position is a great opportunity to engage with community organizers, lawyers, youth, and adults all committed to environmental and social justice.

About ACE

Based in Roxbury, ACE is a 501(c)3 environmental justice organization. ACE organizes residents, provides legal/technical support to community groups, develops youth leadership, and runs campaigns on issues like clean air and first-class public transit. ACE has a vision of maintaining an independent political voice that is led by our members from low-income communities and communities of color. Our long-term goal is for the communities where we work to provide significant financial support to ACE, rather than ACE relying on foundations for the majority of our funds. Our grassroots fundraising activities are designed to resist the institutionalized racism and classism that often exists with funding from foundations and wealthy individuals. ACE does not take funds from corporations or companies that are contradictory to our mission, which is to build the power of communities of color and low-income communities in Massachusetts to eradicate environmental racism and classism, create healthy, sustainable communities, and achieve environmental justice.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
Maintaining and expanding ACE’s major donor base of over 200 individuals;
Drafting donor appeals and other correspondence; carrying out appeal and donor acquisition mailings to our membership of 1,000; maintaining ACE’s online giving programs (including writing e-appeals);
Coordinating fundraising events (including one major event annually);
Providing training and support to staff, Board, the Development Committee, members and volunteers in their fundraising from current and potential donors.
Engaging teachers and other allies in supporting our fundraising work
Coordinating special fundraising communications to segmented audiences (i.e., the legal community, in connection with our legal services program)
Capturing & communicating stories of success and victories for use in fundraising
Create targeted individual donor appeals – connected to events/activities as they’re happening – on a tight timeline

Assume a central role in being a thought partner to Development Director, Executive Director, staff, members and board in generating ideas to increase our long-term fundraising capacity.

In coordination with staff & interns, s/he will have responsibility for the donor database, including gift processing and acknowledgments. The Resource Organizer will report to the Development Director and work closely with the Membership & Communications Coordinator and the Executive Director as part of ACE’s Development/Communications team. Occasional evenings required.

We’re seeking candidates who excel in relationship-building, are results-oriented, and have strong project management skills. You should have:
At least 2 – 4 years relevant experience in development Proven track record in fundraising
Experience in donor prospecting, solicitation and stewardship Exceptional verbal, writing and editing skills

Experience in engaging, supporting, coordinating and motivating across staff, members & volunteers Solid computer skills (proficient in Word, Excel, social media, online donation processing)

Solid database experience (ACE uses Ebase, a Filemaker database)
Experience with event planning and logistics
Energy and desire to fundraise for ACE’s mission and programs
Understanding and commitment to social/environmental justice and community organizing Team player, self-starter, quick learner and ability to work in fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications: Comfort with public speaking
Multi-lingual (Spanish preferred) “-A-Thon” event management
Page layout software skills
Advanced understanding of Filemaker Pro

Salary: $36,000 – $40,000 Depending on experience. ACE offers a generous health, vacation and retirement benefits.
